It was decided that the publisher should have a look at the drawings, and notify us if some changes are needed for publishing. If Ted doesn’t want to go, Karen will go since she knew the Mussellmans. Pastor Moehring has a layman who will be providing the cement at a discount. REMC will be putting in a temporary electrical connection across the road and when the house is complete all wiring will be underground. Votaw Electric will place the pole for the house. Dahm Brothers will complete work on the roof this week, weather permitting. Surveys noted that house will be moved and the driveway will be put on the north side of the house, and this is in keeping with the originally plan. Motion made and seconded by Ron Ahrens. Ted and Ken will work on the floor joics tomorrow no other help will be needed, as it will be a two-man job.
Indiana Landmarks: Cathy Wright had nothing new to report.
IGHS: Ken reported that he and Pendy attended the meeting held last week in Indianapolis since he is now on the board. Ken asked about the by-laws and if anything had been completed. Keith Osborn, attorney and member of IGHS is a very through and cares about everything and wants to keep things in control more will be coming out of this. Leanne asked if we needed more money to help with the house expense, are they ready to give it to us? The Wyneken House is now property of IGHS.
WEB SITE: Connie reported that updates are added as she receives the information.
Thank You Cards: Are current.
Archivist/Librarian: Nothing new to report.
Old Business: Ken reported that he thought that the New Harmony Conference as well as the 200th Birthday for FCD Wyneken was a success. We had good response to the tour for the birthday party and the knowledge of the area churches and family ties. Many people were appreciative of Ted Blomenberg’s off the cuff knowledge of Professor Wyneken. Pat yourself on the Back Ted!!
It was unanimously noted that the Yellow Pants book needs to be done ASAP and if Bill needs help, Connie and Dona offered to help out. We would like this be complete before mid-year (2010).
Fund Raisers: Karen has the brochures ready for two bus trips to Creations Museum and Christkindlemarket to be mailed and sent to the various media stations and churches. We will have posters ready for German Fest and Kekoniga Days. Elaine and Ron will be working on the square dance fundraiser and asked for $300.00 to be put down for the hall.
New Business: Pendy and Dona each received thank you notes from Helen Wyneken. In Pendy’s note Helen requested that she would like four (4) dozen of the Wyneken Mugs so she can give them as Christmas presents. In order that we supply Helen with her mugs we will need to order seven (7) dozen since this is the minimum required by the Scott Company. Ray Scott gave out the logo with the correct spelling etc. The order is placed.
Marilyn Hormann, a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Decatur Road informed us of a house which she felt would be helpful to us in providing “parts” for the Wyneken house. However she has not been in contact with the owner but believes Crosby Construction or Crosby Excavating knows a lot about the house. Don’t know for sure if this is any relation to Tina/Alice Bauermeister but we will wait until Ted can talk with one of them before we proceed. Marilyn said she has prayed for this to happen.
Germanfest: A sign up sheet was passed around for the fest, which will be held June 9 through the 12th. Dona said that there may a possibility that she will be able to get passes for parking BUT we will have to car pool so that more may be able to get in. The Seminary is willing to give us easels that we can portrait FCD Wyneken founding father of Concordia Theological Seminary and other information.
Legal papers: Ken will keep one set of legal papers; Title, insurance etc and Dona will keep a second set in the Archivist/library.

Some discussion about his interpretation vs. what was voted on as far as an addition is concerned. Some talk about how present needs (for large groups) will be better met by larger addition.
- House discussion – typical barn was 40’ x 70’ – used a storey pole; Ted said his house was 14’ x 22’ for example; Andy thought symmetry was key (typical German cultural “thing”), so reason for Andy thinking addition was not as large as what group thought.
- Kenny and Pendy will plant one row of trees on line selected by Brad and Dona between the two properties tomorrow.
- Ted thinks Wyneken needed “Lebensraum” i.e. living room for large family – (I think Hitler used that for justification for invading Poland, but I digress)

Dona requested every meeting notes need to be read aloud – general agreement to read each meeting.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Balance: $1,118.84; IGHS Totals $13,222.08 (same as last month).
Some discussion about financials general opinion is we need more detail. i.e. some discussion about where the Excursions check is for the $100 down payment for the New Harmony trip. Pendy is talking to Excursions, so we are fairly sure we have the bus; but Pendy will check on deposit.
Building Report:
- Discussion on Title Insurance – waiting for Dona to talk to bank. Title insurance will have one copy at IGHS, one with group, one with Dona (?)
- Kenny wants a symbolic handing off of the deed; John suggested May 8 when seminary people are at the site – [Pendy wants German chocolate served – Ted mentioned he will be gone and will miss eating the cake]
- Scott Grieder’s latest drawing basement size 16’ x 17’6” are not completed, so John cannot bring tonight – John, Kenny, Ted, Scott all met at the house a week or so ago and physically pointed out where we wanted “stuff” – [It was also noted that SOON electrical service, sewage tank placement, propane tank placement, well, etc., needs to be planned.] Lack of communication was aided by the meeting. A storey pole was probably used by the builders according to Marv. Conrad. The front porch will be extended out (no measurements given at meeting). (Ted gets his wish for an oomph pa band stage!). Kenny mentioned again that “We sure want some construction going on when Seminary people are out there!”
- Issue of need for more wood for addition – doesn’t include the need for joists and flooring for original part of house.
- Ron suggested a Basement Committee; some discussion about – determined when bids are ready to go – president, vice, secretary, treasurer, will make a decision. Motion Made and Carried to determine winning bid if received before next meeting. [FOR RECORD – need names of members making these motions]

- Some discussion on a slide show at Seminary during birthday celebration, including the basement plans, etc. – also at New Harmony Convention. Connie Buuck to take lead I believe.
- Pendy said after this discussion of our display, “…tell Gregg we need two tables!” Also should have books for sale when Seminary is touring. We also need brochures, Harrison book (we will take orders) , and we need to take birdhouses.
- Need pictures of Ted and Marvin working on windows and doors…don’t have any! Connie wants for website.
- Kenny will continue negotiations with Brad (Dona’s neighbor), about the tree line between his property and the Wyneken House. Kenny reported nursery said one row was best. Brad also wanted some trees along the lower edge of the property. Kenny said 1 ½ – 2 ft. tall, 5 feet apart, 20 trees = $120.00. Would be hybrid, fast-growing trees; some question about cost, Kenny is tentatively planning on donating these. Dona asked about Bobbie Heller providing – unfortunately Kenny says he does not carry these kind at Heller Nursery.

IGHS
Heiko Muhr from IGHS present - Heiko thanked everyone for scheduling New Harmony trip, is glad to see such interest. FUNDRAISING Several Ideas on Fundraisers related to Wyneken’s 200th Birthday
- John has some ideas for the weekend of May 15 – walks from Calvary (Ft. Wayne), Zion, (Decatur) mini-marathon 13 mile run…tent etc. at the home;
- March 3 Wyneken Planning at Seminary – Kenny/Pending going, Ted (Friedheim Rep.), Pastor Moehring (Fuelling), not sure if anyone else can attend
- Elaine brought up some ideas (and figures) for a square-dance/fundraiser at Goegleins or Hoagland Hayloft, getting items to raffle, (birdhouses!), some rental prices (Goegleins $300/Hoagland $425 – Bands, $375 Justus3; Bill Werling $525) sample food and drink: deli menu: cheese cold meat coffee $5.25 per
Leanne said wanted a 3 month notice before donating something –Kenny asked for a consensus we have decided look for a September date, Hoagland Hayloft the best, Friday night probably best.
New Harmony – April 23 and 24; make own Hoagland reservations; 5 seats still available; $85 includes tip and two meals optional; bicycles and golf carts and walking – everything close.
$123 for 2 bdrm. At New Harmony Inn. Still trying to get somebody at St. Paul and Friedheim.
Website……Heavier card 250 would be $20.00; 1000 would be $44 – Connie will get cards – hopefully before New Harmony trip.
Kenny mentioned anyone that needs tax receipts from Leanne need to be sent to her soon
Becky Linneameier mentioned that the 5 seats should go into the FW Lutheran Newsletter….Elaine will make sure it gets in there.
Pendy talked to her former pastor in Avilla – (another Wyneken congregation) Terry Householder wrote a book – another Wyneken congregation.
Tina presented her check $750 from Verizon.
Becky – LWML convention in Indianapolis June could get a grant – Becky will look into.
- Pendy reiterated some of her planning for the 2011 event. She mentioned a keynote speaker from perhaps the Seminary. She made a plea to membership to work on house this coming summer in preparation for the Annual 2011 event. Some details on getting a bus trip together for New Harmony. Pendy was asked to get her details on what she has done so far for the group on paper or email.
Respectfully submitted, Tina M. Bauermeister – Next meeting, Monday, March 15, 2010 at Two Brothers.
Meeting – JANUARY 18, 2010 2 Brothers, Decatur IN
Call to Order and Opening Prayer by Pastor Moehring
ATTENDEES: Ron and Elaine Ahrens, Alice and Tina Bauermeister, Ted Blomenberg, Connie Buuck, Leanne Busick, Avon Crismore, Karen Heller, John Kalb, Ruth McKinnon, Rev. Moehring, Dona Schaefer, Kenny and Pendy Selking
Secretary’s report approved as read, EXCEPT W/CORRECTIONS
Secretary’s notes from December read by Tina, apologies once again for lateness. Corrections for church names involved with 2011 Annual meeting to be held here: Bingen/St. Johns; Zion/Friedheim; St. Paul’s/Fort Wayne; and Soest/Emmanuel, Wayne Trace – Progressive Meal at each church.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Balance: $2,443.13. IGHS Totals $13,222.08.
Many end-of-year reconciliations are needed by IGHS. Kenny asked about Thrivent; Leanne said they are restructuring for 2010. The $13,222.08 includes 2009 Thrivent matching funds. We got money from two chapters, $500 Adams and an estimated $640 from East Allen. Leanne had also applied to Wells, S. Allen, etc., just got two chapters to match.
Kenny did submit a grant request to Walmart in October; having problems getting any response from anyone locally.
Verizon grant of $750 should be arriving in time for February meeting per Tina.
Leanne discussed how IGHS is a trifle lackadaisical about getting their mail, hopefully adding “Donation” to bottom of any letter addressed to them should help. Karen requested a breakdown of what we actually got; $537.00 includes Eichorn Jewelry; donations in can, and crafts….Motion made to accept – passed
Leanne asked about compiling a year of financial records and putting them on a CD. Some discussion; Avon ardently opposed; Elaine was more for, but I believe the compromise was to have both paper and a CD.
BUILDING REPORT:
- Tuesday Night Gathering – at Adams Co. Library February 23; 7 P.M. – Open to the public; Ted will give a talk and an update about the Wyneken House. Kenny added it is great people are remembering our group is around.
- Scott Grieder to finish up the plans so we can do the bump. Link Luddington said it would be very hard to weatherproof storage area under porch. John, Kenny, Pendy, Link, and Cathy W. rechecked around building in December. (Meeting was to get Link’s opinion on original structure.)
Ted made a motion to eliminate the front storage area; Pastor seconded. Passed by vote
John made a motion to extend bump out 16 x 20 feet; Ted seconded.
- Scott Grieder $900 to redraw, prior motion called for both views, now a mute issue. Door to storage area discussed.
- Floor joists need put in; chimney needs taken down; 2nd storey beams are to be dated yet; Title insurance done, just needs check written. Additional survey for easement is still needed – will be done soon per Ted.
- Rick Slayback – Septic engineer sending a receipt – $3,790 minus $1,590 for charitable deduction which leaves a bill $2,200 bill John thinks $900 – Karen makes a motion to pay $900 Ted seconded.
- Title insurance estimated $390 and $440 (annual) Liability – $1 Million. Many bills coming due soon.
Must be in name of IGHS and Ted and John made motions for going ahead.
Land value of $26K allows IGHS to borrow money against it always an asset for it.
- Windows and doors update; moveable transoms – some discussion. Sidelights will be separate units.
Wood flooring out in Marv/Ted’s woods much of that got ruined, so more will have to be felled.
- Reiterated that during the winter, the chimney could be taken down. Compressor from Denny up in the air…no pun intended.
- Elaine and Pendy discussed thank you note; John needs to send original scan.
- No talk to Brad Martz about tree line/windbreak…Mr. Ernst did some landscaping; John suggested he might have some ideas.
IGHS
Kenny had discussions with lawyer and Greg Redding about tweaking constitution (Keith Osborn) said do not do anything with our group “stuff” until they are done.

WEBSITE
Connie will add that Ted and John are available for talks. Connie talked/emailed with 3rd cousin in Arcadia, MI who has original furniture (4 or 5 pieces of parlor furniture).
Connie will check the comments section for how it works on website; Karen’s friend reported having problems leaving a comment. Tina checked (2 Bros. had WIFI connection….cool!), also could not leave a comment….kept “looping”.
FUNDRAISING:
Pendy reiterated some of her planning for the 2011 event. She mentioned a keynote speaker from perhaps the Seminary. She made a plea to membership to work on house this coming summer in preparation for the Annual 2011 event. Some details on getting a bus trip together for New Harmony. Tina suggested 29 seat bus from Excursions, ten people from the four involved churches signed up to go which was not enough for a “normal” bus. No one from Friedheim Ladies group(s) signed up.
Pendy was asked to get her details on what she has done so far for the group on paper or email.
Pendy passed out a calendar of events scheduled so far.
Leanne passed out a list of expenses and some fundraising points. (Many expenses not enough revenues!)
Respectfully submitted, Tina M. Bauermeister – Next meeting, Monday, February 15, 2010 at 2 Brothers.
Meeting – DECEMBER 16, 2009 Leanne Busick’s Home
Caroling – began at 5:00 at Woodcrest, a large number of residents came to the cafeteria to listen. The County Home was next, and the joy expressed by one little guy in a wheelchair, made the stop a heartwarming visit. We rounded out the Caroling Event at Evergreen; and stayed after to drink hot chocolate, eat cookies, and visit with the residents, several of which were Pastor Moehring’s parishioners. One of the attendants had made up a nice tray for both us and the audience.
We then congregated at Leanne Busick’s home for a fine meal; three kinds of soups Leanne had prepared, sandwiches, myriad desserts, and gluhwein, and other assorted spirits.
Call to Order and Opening Prayer by Pastor Moehring
ATTENDEES: Alice and Tina Bauermeister, Ted Blomenberg, Connie Buuck, Leanne Busick, John Kalb, Rev. Moehring, Kenny and Pendy Selking, Cathy Wright
SECRETARY’S REPORT: approved as read
FINANCIAL REPORT: Balance: $2,143.13. IGHS Totals $10,200.73.
Some discussion on the donation letter that was mailed out; Leanne reiterated the grand total of $1,955.00 was received locally and at IGHS, with the potential for more to come. Many thanks to Leanne for spearheading this very successful fund drive.
Some discussion on Wyneken Craft Show, decided to plan attending the event again in 2010. Motions made. Not sure of breakdown between FOW and Pendy items, but thanks to Pendy also; and to FOW members manning booth.
BUILDING REPORT
Insurance – concerning some of the issues raised by IGHS in regards to liability/property/title insurance Kenny found one company willing to quote us liability coverage (One million/$440/year). Tina had also called State Farm on property coverage and State Farm seconded what Kenny had found out that neither would insure the home until the house was more “secured”. The title insurance is in process, and could be finished any day.
Basement Addition for Side Structure
Bids - John stated that the bids would be influenced by the almost “wash” in square-footage by eliminating the front porch space vs. adding the 16’ bump out. Some discussion about additional cost of Scott Grieder having to rework drawings; but mute point since having architectural drawings are integral to getting bids.
Secretary believes she made motion (Second ?) to have bids based on original plans WITH side addition and also bids on DROPPING front porch storage area and ADDING side addition.
One caveat to keeping front porch storage was that Link Luddington thought the space under the front was not the best idea from a practical standpoint.
Some discussion on lack of monies to do what we already have planned. Kenny added that: “Yes, we know that estimates for the work we need to do exceeds our in-hand resources, but we trust and we work.”
FUNDRAISING
Kenny mentioned before that in the January meeting we need to deal with fund raising plans for the coming year; bus trips, Germanfest, etc, etc. Everyone come prepared!
Some discussion on Pendy arranging for invitations to the four women’s groups of Wyneken/St. Johns, Freidhiem/St. Pauls, Fuelling/St.Johns, and Zion?, Decatur to take a bus trip to New Harmony for the IGHS annual meeting to experience what Adams County might be hosting in 2011. Extra seats on bus will be for FOW members to attend meeting also.
HISTORIC LANDMARKS
Cathy did not have a report; but had added comments to other parts of the proceedings, esp. the Building notes.

MISCELLANEOUS
Discussion concerning meeting place; vote to return to Two Brothers for January meeting was decided upon; issues with noise levels and with awkward seating arrangement at Preble were raised by various members. May alternate in the future, also John Kalb and Connie requested a meeting place in Ft. Wayne, Waynedale Inn, Lambros, etc. were mentioned. Tina ventured 9 Mile, especially since one of the owners belongs to Wyneken/St. John’s.

Respectfully submitted, Tina M. Bauermeister – Next meeting, Monday, January 18, at 2 BROTHERS
Meeting – NOVEMBER 16, 2009 Preble Gardens, Preble, IN
Call to Order and Opening Prayer by Pastor Moehring
Attendees: Ron Ahrens, Alice and Tina Bauermeister, Ted Blomenberg, Connie Buuck, Leanne Busick, Avon Crismore, John Kalb, Ruth McKinnon, Rev. Moehring, Heiko Muhr, Dona Schaefer, Kenny and Pendy Selking, Cathy Wright
Secretary’s report approved as read, EXCEPT W/CORRECTIONS – “Immanuel House” instead as noted “Emmanuel”; Leanne Busick will be hosting Caroling Event instead of at Dona’s; and Cathy still needs 2 copies of architectural drawings when finished.
Financial Report: Balance: $3,746.10. IGHS Totals $9,070.73.
Leanne reported that she had mailed out donation letters and then passed out copies to everyone at the meeting. She also made a plea to the membership to kick in a donation also.
Building Report:
Some discussion on what to pay Scott Greider (John noted he is not employed as of now).
Ted made a motion to pay $1,622.70 to Scott for drawings – John Kalb Seconded.
The appraisal for the land Dona donated, $150.00 approved and John Kalb made a motion to pay – Ted B. Seconded. Land was appraised for $26,000. An additional bill from the lawyer, $305 minimum, maybe more will be expected.
Thrivent monies are down – congregations won’t get anymore and even the chapter money may end. This comment entailed a long, involved discussion on how and where we can make more money to meet the goal of $15,000 to get the $5,000 match from Thrivent. “Avon buying more birdhouses” was suggested to the general amusement. Some talk of asking $22,000 from Thrivent, Adams County Foundation is out of money; Ted offered up the $25 he and John got from their latest Women’s Group Talk.
Basement bid $23K approximately, doesn’t include digging which would run $1,800-$2,200 to dig the hole. Required would be $1,000 down/balance in 30 days.
Quote from Ron Ross still delayed; problem with truck not having brakes –the inspector would not pass it. Ron is retiring soon, going to be a pastor at a truck stop on 69 of all things.
If basement could be poured soon, best case scenario house would be on new basement and moved by January 1, 2010. John continued with details about the move and how the mason would finish up once house was lowered. Plan to face exposed cement with brick still in place.
Steve Miller will take off $500 if he gets the bid. Two companies bid, Miller Construction and Warden/Everett Construction.
No bids on a possible side addition. The DNR “guy”, Link “crawled around” and spotted red x’s marked for the original 1850 floor plan of the house. He agreed a “bump out” was connected to the existing back extension. 16 feet reaching along side of existing house, but no clear agreement on how far the addition extended “out” from the house. Leanne asked if there was any basement on the addition; Ted thought there was one. The summer kitchen/kitchen was an early instruction room – that flooring went into Friedheim parsonage. Ted talked about the original extension for some time.
Cathy added that the National Register is not convinced that we can earn accreditation, – but they were somewhat against a wing with no pictures to go by to reconstruct with no window/door placement. Ted made an impassioned plea to the group on making the home as close as possible to the 1850 condition.
Kenny asked everyone to weigh in on this “monkey wrench” since drawings would have to be revised if we now want an additional basement area dug. Some opinions ventured were “if not done now, will never happen”; “no home would be w/o a kitchen”, “frustration with the possibility of months and months of waiting again”; “concerns about authenticity”, “serve any purpose?”; “procrastination”; financial “don’t have the money for what we want now”; “have to wait for bids again”; “keep it as it is now”; “we need to talk to the issues” “how are we going to finish West side without it?” “Link might be able to give ideas”; right now a door and stairway to “no where”.
Cathy agrees that Link from DNR should come back up and get his opinion.
Craig Leonard finally contacted Kenny – bottom line: where he is concerned, he agrees with addition; he agrees with the front door – but has no more information.
Link Luddington pointed out that the big logs on 2nd storey recycled from somewhere else. Ted made a Motion to Table subject for a month until we get more information from Luddington, Schwartz, excavators, etc. Leanne Seconded.
Saturday Workday – 5 windows in; Marvin Conrad still working on door; noted that front door was a recessed entry; Link noted a “vestibule”.
IGHS:
Heiko Muhr relayed that Eberhardt Reichmann’s memorial service and reception was next Wednesday, he noted Eberhardt was a former professor, author, founding member of IGHS; Heiko also noted the Anthology was uncompleted, but needs published.
Heiko said with the many new people on the IGHS board, primary concern is for the Athenaeum in Indianapolis; some perception of other interests as a threat. Liability issues are also a problem. Our money from IGHS might be in jeopardy. He stated that liability insurance and property insurance needs to be gotten. Farm Bureau will be contacted by Kenny for a quote.
Heiko detailed some upcoming IGHS events, St. Nicolas, New Harmony Annual meeting, etc. National German Studies are in New Harmony which ties in with the Annual meeting.
FUNDRAISING:
Wyneken Craft Show is next event on December 5. Nothing new on bus trips, coloring book, cards.

Call to Order and Opening Prayer by Pastor Moehring
Attendees: Ron and Elaine Ahrens, Alice and Tina Bauermeister, Ted Blomenberg, Connie Buuck, Leanne Busick, Karen Heller, John Kalb, Ruth McKinnon, Rev. Moehring, Dona Schaefer, Kenny and Pendy Selking
Secretary’s report approved as read, EXCEPT Karen Heller was absent instead of in attendance.

Financial Report: Balance: $3,905.26. Rummage sale proceeds of $1,527.90 as grand total noted.
- Ted brought up a point that since we have a maximum number of donations to meet Thrivent’s match (unless the “in kind” is an issue), in December, we perhaps should wait until next year for some items.
Building Report:
- Last Thursday, October 15, Board of Appeals had a meeting – John, Ted and Scott Greider attended.
- Dona’s neighbor Brad had some concerns; he and his wife had wanted a “house in the country”, not a house “by a museum”. Also some concerns on how long it was taking to see any progress.
- Board decreed by next October 2010 house must be “buttoned up” and on a basement.
- A proposal for a natural brush fence caused quite a bit of discussion – upshot, John and Ted to check out.
- Neighbor Brad had to chase off some Heritage High School kids that were trespassing.
- Neighbor Brad also had concerns about the parking lot and sewage system.
- De-acceleration lanes on both sides of the road perhaps.
- Building permit for basement next – applying for a residential home is the key; if we say its for a museum, the state would get involved; keeping the permit to the local level is best.
- Scott’s plans are complete, but wants to talk to concrete people before Scott signs off.
- 90 days to start – 2 years to complete once permit is granted.
- Plan is to have front closed off before winter. Tyvex (rubber) covering for east side briefly discussed.

- Connie is checking into getting some “professional” business cards made
- Leanne brought up that internet access fees are due; Connie to contact Brian about this.
FUNDRAISING:
- Rummage Sale
- Emmanuel House picked up the majority, but only wanted household type items for their charity.
- Tina has several boxes stored at her house for next sale
- Christmas items will be taken to Wyneken Craft Show.
- Bill Schmidt drawings were passed around, he wanted some feedback on what the group thinks. Decided that January 2010 should be the deadline.
- Connie had some cards with designs she had made; some talk of pricing from printers for the cards; ranged from $1.27 to .39 cents per cards. John made a motion for 500 each of 4 motifs (2000 total), and said if we did not make our money back, John will pick up the difference.
- Christkindelmart tabled; Tina made a motion to not pursue it for this year, Elaine seconded. Next year we will do better organizing some.
- December 14 meeting at Dona’s caroling before, meeting after, was discussed. Final details on next meeting.
- Once again reiterated that Bob Smith (from Seminary), Ted, and Tony need to discuss a joint event on the 200th anniversary of Wyneken with the Seminary.

- Thrivent this year is matching 1 for every 3
- Some discussion about how to donate in kind; Leanne gave an example as:
- Turn in receipt
- FOW writes person who donated – a check
- Donating person donates money [check] back
- Some discussion that Marv Conrad needs to send in a receipt for the doors and windows
- Taxes for individuals might determine when they donate their in-kind items
Building Report:
- John showed everyone the Permit he had procured for the septic system; it is good for one year.
- 2.8 -2.9 acres has been deeded by Dona. Everyone at the meeting applauded in appreciation.

- Name of past mover was Ron Ross
- Some discussion of the metal I-beams under the house – John remarked that the person who donated them said “he never wants to see again”. They will be incorporated into the foundation of the house. For their weight in iron alone, depending on the price per ton of course, they should be worth approx. $6K.
- Ted noted that since basement is beginning to be a probability, Lutheran Foundation could become a possibility as a source of funds.
CATHY WRIGHT/LANDMARKS: Cathy was absent; and did not have anything new to report; Kenney did remark that October 8 was the deadline for the last grant cycle for Adams Co. Foundation.
IGHS: Reiterated that Heiko is part of the standing committee for IGHS. Heiko votes for FOW.

Scott Greider drew up an alternate design which incorporated additional storage under the front porch.
Additional basement to the SIDE of the home would be more expensive.

Friends of Wyneken Board Meeting Minutes – April 20, 2009
Held at Norm’s Preble Gardens in Preble, IN
Ken Selking opened the meeting at 7:10 PM. He read a prayer that was furnished by Pastor Martin Moehring, who was unable to attend. Present were: Ken Selking, Tina Bauermeister, Alice Bauermeister, Ted Blomenberg, Dona Schaefer, Karen Heller, Ruth McKinnon, Ron Erens, Andy Buuck, Connie Buuck, Cathy Wright, Pendy Selking, Leanne Busick, Chairman Ken Selking and John B. Kalb.
The minutes of the March 16, 2009 meeting were approved as posted on the website.
Leanne Busick gave the attached treasurer’s report covering all money in our checking account and what is held by IGHS in their account for us.
Pendy Selking had a party this last weekend and set out a FOW contribution jar collecting $111.00.
Ken Selking reported that he and Pendy had brought more books (from the Reichman’s) when they came back from the annual IGHS meeting Some of these we paid for and some were free – all to be offered at our Fort Wayne Germanfest booth as fundraisers.
A sample coffee cup with the FOW design and logo was passed around. 72 of them at $4.37 each have been purchased and should arrive prior to our May meeting.
Discussion about the final plans for the basement resulted in a decision to ask Scott Grieder to include an “alcove” thru one wall into the hill for storage of tables and chairs when not required.
The “Yellow Pants” book and coloring book were discussed. Bill Schmidt is doing a sample page for us to see what his work would look like. Ted Blomenberg also indicated a desire to work on “outline” graphics for the coloring book, based on the drawings.
A possible fund-raising day bus trip to the Creation Museum in Coventry, KY was talked about with no final agreement reached.
We will have to finalize our plans for the Fort Wayne Germanfest at our next meeting since the dates for it are June 7-14.
Ken announced that he and Pendy will be leaving about July 1st to Alaska and they will be gone 6 weeks returning in mid- August.
Our next meeting will be at Norm’s Preble Gardens at 7 PM on May 18, 2009

Friends of Wyneken Board Meeting Minutes – March 16, 2009
Held at Preble Gardens in Preble, IN
Ken Selking opened the meeting at 7:10 PM. Present were: Ken Selking, Ted Blomenberg, Karen Heller, Dona Schaefer, Ruth McKinnon, Alice Bauermeister, Tina Bauermeister, Connie Buuck, Cathy Wright, Ron Ehrens, Elaine Ehrens, John Kalb, and Pastor Martin Moehring who gave the opening prayer.
The minutes of the February 16, 2009 meeting were approved as posted on the website.
The financial report was accepted as provided by Leanne Busick.
Ted commented that he is picking up poplar lumber on 3/17/09 so that the windows for the front of the house can be completed.
John brought us up to date on the soil testing which was done on March 26. It ended up that the only place that could be found for the filter beds was across the creek. Final paperwork will be submitted to the State Board of Health by Joe Baker after we have a meeting with Neil Ogg, Adams County Building Inspector to find out what classification he wants to put on the site (educational, assembly, et al). Total cost of the sewerage system will be about $20,000. Per our engineer, Rick Slayback, we do not need to rush the septic system – we can wait until the basement is done and the house moved over it.
John followed up with the people tearing down the Olds Wagon Works Buildings in Fort Wayne. They will sell us, at a special price (with our note that $40.00 per 1000 bricks was a contribution by them) of $140.00 per 1000. We estimate that we will need about 10,000 more than we have to complete the basement as Scott Grieder has designed it. So our cost would be $1400.00. After some discussion, it was moved, seconded and approved to go ahead and get that quantity. The bricks will be cleaned, palletized, banded and shrink-wrapped for outdoor storage and we will have to arrange transportation and possible storage of them. John will be working on that, hopefully getting an organization to donate the transportation and storage.
We discussed Scott Grieder’s plans A & B. After discussion, it was decided that we use one month to review, feed back any suggestions and plan to give Scott the OK to proceed after our April meeting>
We discuss the web site. It is looking good, was the general consensus.
May 15 & 16 will be the Barn Sale. We need to publicize that we need non-clothing contributions. Karen will be our publicity person for the future.
Pastor Moehring read the “Yellow Pants” story as covered by George Mather in his book, “Frontier Faith”. This version is close to what is in the children book published by CPH. John & Connie indicated that they have been trying to get together with Bill Schmidt on the revision of the artwork so that we can get the book reprinted and have the planned coloring book printed. They will continue working on this.
Ken announced that our next meeting would be on April 20th at 7 PM and, since all in attendance so indicated, it will be at Preble Gardens again.
Pastor Moehring dismissed us with a benediction.

Friends of Wyneken Board Meeting Minutes – February 16, 2009
Held at Two Brothers in Decatur
Present: Ted Blomenberg, Karen Heller, Leanne Busick, Dona Schafer, Pastor Moehring, Avon Crismore, Ken Selking, Ruth McKinnon, Alice & Tina Bauermeister, Connie Buuck, John Kalb
Ken opened the meeting at 7:00 PM
Pastor Moehring said a prayer, asking for our Lord’s guidance.
Minutes of the January 19, 2009 meeting were revised to leave out “….that IGHS will adopt, also” in paragraph titled “Finance Report”. They were then approved as revised.
Finance Report: All items are accurate and up-to-date except the part from IGHS, as presented by Leanne as attached. Leanne also passed out revised copies of the “FOW Expenditure Request Form”, copy attached. All future requests for payment from FOW funds are to be made by filling out a copy of this document.
Ted reported that some of the stacked Oak floated away back into the woods with the high water last week. It was found, all frozen in a pile and is probably OK. Ted also asked if anyone knew if the bricks from the Olds Wagon Works Building being torn down in Fort Wayne would be available. John offered to check on it and report at our next meeting.
Ken talked about the Annual IGHS meeting on March 27 & 28. He and Pendy will be attending plus any others wanting to go. Meeting will be at the Athenieum in Indianapolis.
Ken mentioned that he and Pendy have three copies of the title abstract on the original site of the house.
The IGHS annual meeting in 2010 may be already planned at New Harmony, Indiana in conjunction with a National German Educational group. Therefore, having it at the house in celebration of F.C.D. Wyneken’s 200 birthday celebration on May 13, 2010. It was mentioned that we still should be planning a formal celebration on that day, which will be a Thursday.
Connie has been getting the web site up and running. The email address for contacts will be info@friendsofwyneken.org .
We discussed getting the coffee cups in a gold color with the “Circuit Riders” logo in black. Connie has a contact in Germany at a ceramic manufacturer and she will check and report. It was expressed that it would be preferred that the cups be made in Germany rather than being marked, “Made In China”.
After discussion, it was determined to hold the barn sale on May 15 & 16. We all are to see that announcements in church bulletins are placed in early April.
Tina gave another check for $750.00, from her employer, Verizon. The Verizon Foundation responds each year with this amount because Tina volunteers at least 50 hours per year for FOW chapter of IGHS. Thank- you’s to Tina and Verizon Foundation have been sent. What a great, non-governmentally funded method to support what we know to be a great historical preservation project!
Overall feeling that fund-raising is going to be tough for some time due to the poor economic conditions. We may have to go a little easy this year.
A question was asked as to when Kristina Muhr will have the study curriculum available for use by our schools. An answer is requested.
We discussed using Preble Gardens for one of our meetings. Ken will try to set it up for the March 16 get-together and will advise us prior to the meeting.
We closed with Pastor giving a benediction at 8:45 PM
